Curbside Composting Programs in Boulder County

Eco-CycleBoulder, CO

This Eco-Cycle residential flyer describes how to tell if a product is compostable, and explains how BPI Certification/ #7 PLA applies to curbside composting.

About the Author
Eco-Cycle is one of the largest non-profit recyclers in the USA and has an international reputation as a pioneer and innovator in resource conservation. Created 37 years ago by everyday residents who had a passionate belief in conserving our natural resources. While this flyer gives some great information, some of it is out of date -- the BPI certification label changed in 2014.

Also, simply stating that a product meets ASTM d6400 is not foolproof. A third-party certification like BPI is preferred, as it shows that reputable labs were used for testing, and positive results were verified independently.

Finally, just because a product is made from PLA does not mean it is certified compostable (e.g., yogurt cups), so just looking for a #7 followed by PLA is not sufficient.
